I actually knew that nailed it is impossible.you can’t make a cake in 2 hours! That’s impossible even for the most experienced chefs. Nailed it is more for comedy and fun, they take inexperienced bakers so they make mistakes and fail badly, but if you took and experienced baker and asked them to make it they’d also fail. I love nailed it but it isn’t possible

I grew up with homemade Barbie cakes, instead of layered cakes the skirt was baked in the Kitchenaid bowl. They were also frosted old school style instead of fondant.

I remember when I first watched this show I kinda thought the same thing. I’m a good baker and I love cake decorating and I’m pretty good at it, but I thought to myself with that kind of time limit my stuff would look awful. At first I thought of it as a problem with me because in my family I’m a notoriously slow cook, but I realized a little later that this would be an issue for everyone

Most of these baking shows just add a time limit for drama. They actually film for way longer and will let them finish things. A friend of mine worked on Cupcake wars

Years ago when I was learning cake decorating we made a doll cake. The cake alone took 45 minutes to bake and it took a bit of time to decorate the cake because I was still learning and in between classes I would practice how to make frosting and fondant decorations. I was fortunate to have my one grandmother teach me. things in between classes. I know it takes more than that to make a doll cake from experience,

So just a couple of things. I love Ann Reardon but I also really like Nailed It so I just want to say a few things in defense. First, I'm not 100% certain about this, but as far as i can tell, the contestants are given all of their dry ingredients as a sort of "cake mix" (at least in this episode) aaaand they have a blast freezer. That being said, yes the show is way too hard buttt that's kinda the point. Its less like a "strive for perfection" and more like a "where should I cut my losses and make the most of my time?"

I think we all know that nailed it is more of a comedy show its still a baking show but more comedy based on fails

My sister was watching Nailed it and I was questioning why at some points they would criticize and at some points berate the contestants even though they were obviously set up for failure anyway.

I love the show, and think everyone knows the premise, and that it's in good fun - the prizes are pretty awesome. But what I love is when one of the contestants won the first competition, the professional judge came over for 2 minutes to give advice. Was running and working with her to give her the best chance, also told her to put the cakes in the freezer while you work on the icing and accessories - gives it the chance to cool.

I really wanted someone to do this as I also noticed that 2 hours was not enough

I couldnt watch nailed it. The host was trying too hard to he energetic and funny that it just came off as loud and annoying to me...same went with Sugar Rush...he was trying too hard to be a TV host that he just sounded like a terrible football announcer dude...and he smiles way too much like it was creepy...

They have more time to make the cakes, they use pre-made cake mix, bigger KitchenAids, and they have blast chillers lol Though I appreciate y’all making it more difficult since you do have a leg up on the contestants already.

yeah my mom.. a pastry chef just used a bunt cake and hollowed it out and would put ice cream in it.... also, she did it with butter cream and a star tip to make her gown.... I swear took her 10 minutes to decorate it she was so FAST.... but you are correct.. it is impossible in the alotted time on Nailed it... because there is no time to cool... it really sets those poor suckers up for failure.

First of all, I don't think this assessment was accurate. You both hand mix a lot of things that Nailed It says to use a stand mixer, and while the stand mixer is operating, you can start a bunch of the fondant work. Additionally, they use things like blast chillers and convection ovens that cut down on time. They also allow things like pre-made fondant and other shortcuts. Finally, the contestants go there knowing they won't be able to bake the items correctly in the time allocated. I've always been more concerned with, can the chefs and/or guest judges create the items, to perfection, in the time allocated? It doesn't seem like this video was a fair comparison.

I think the largest issue with this video is that the second portion of the show, the one where they try to make the design cake, they don't HAVE to make the cake, they have premade cake to sculpt. And no one expects it to go well, its the whole point of the show.

The 2nd best thing in the whole video is the packet of something that has CSK written on it (Chennai super kings) a cricket team the best thing is the cake

This is older but I LOVE Nailed it and agree, it would be very difficult to succeed at. I qlways thought they should get some professional bakers on in a special episode. I think the point is that they get such humorous and lovely people to do these impossible tasks haha

I watch Nail It and an experienced baker as well I watch and go that is not possible. It is deceiving because the experts that make the make the final cake aren't doing it with a time constraint. I think they should have to do it in 2 hours but then I wouldn't be fun that way. All these challenge type shows are designed more for drama and excitement rather than reality.

I don't usually watch Anne's cooking videos, does she usually use margerine in her cakes? I am bit bummed by that.

my mum is a professional cake decorator and I've watched her for over 20 years and I know how long roughly it takes to do aspects of cake decorating. When I saw nailed it is knew that they were being set up to fail I'm so glad I saw this video thanks for uploading :D

A lot of the steps are already done for them, like premade cake or frosting, and they have industrial blast chillers and the like. For an experienced baker/pastry chef I believe it would be possible but hard. For an inexperienced baker I think it would be impossible

On that show they actually have this fanned quick cooling refrigerator, but you are correct those cakes couldn't be replicated in that amount of time

BTW, I did a princess cake for my child's birthday years ago. I used a bundt pan. Went very quickly. Also, just iced it with a delicious frosting, no fondant... yuk!
