I have my late gramma’s 50s metal French fry cutter so I have seen it used. I also have it in the box. :) At Goodwill i got a boxed 1940s donut dropper. I have yet to use it. Oh and I inherited a copper pusher for the spritz cookies and has the box too.

The orange peeler isn't necessarily for speed. I have a different kind of orange peeler which cuts the rind without damaging the orange slices. I like using it because I hate digging into the orange peel with my fingernails. It ends up staining them and I never get them to feel clean enough.

As a child, we used the orange ring peeler because we weren't trusted with knives but both parents had full time jobs and couldn't hold our hands when preparing snacks. This later led to all of us children being very good with knives and hating anything remotely cooking related.

Home chip/fry cutters are always too small. Spend a bit more at a restaurant supply place and you can get a pro-grade one that can take whole potatoes and turn them into lovely jullien or batonette fast and easy. I spent just shy of 95 CAD and got an excellent fry cutter with a long handle and plenty of room for whole potatoes. I'd definitely recommend it if you regularly make fries at home, especially if you brine your fries before frying. You can pre-cut and brine in bulk and cook as you need.

Can you try one of those little suction things for egg yolks? You squeeze it and it sucks inside similar to the bottle trick but more efficient and easier to wash.

I think the advantage with the orange peeler is that it would be kid safe. You should be able to hand that to a child and let them peel their own snack without needing to use a sharp knife to start the peeling.

Wrong way to use the potato cutter, first of all, peel off the skin(unless you want to make fries with it), second, cut the potato in half in a way that the flat face is at the bottom so it can slide, but if it still won't easily go, check the blades, you might have put them the opposite direction. If you do specially the second step of cutting the potato in half, it will slide very easily, that way you barely even have to apply force. I have one, been using it for a couple of years now and it's a tool I must have since my family is big and loves fries so much that a 25kg potato bag barely last a couple of days. That tool saves me many hours of time, effort and risks!
